European Commission Launches Toy Safety Campaign

1 December 2011

In an effort to help parents choose safe toys for their children and to encourage safe play, the European Commission (EC) announced the launch of a Toy Safety Campaign on November 29th in time for the holiday shopping season.

As part of the campaign, which underscores the importance of choosing age-appropriate toys and supervising children to ensure that they are playing safely, the Commission is encouraging parents and caregivers to visit a newly launched webpage that features important toy safety tips and a video clip, which is scheduled to air on TV stations across Europe.

“What makes a toy safe to use will depend not only on the toy itself, but also on how it is used and the age of a child,” stated the EC in a press release announcing the initiative.

The safety information cards will also be handed out by toy retailers in Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Greece, Romania, the United Kingdom, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Ireland, and Austria. A full list of the stores taking part in the campaign can be found online.
