25 May 2012

Directors of 14 of the International Council of Toy Industries' (ICTI) 19 national member associations met for their 38th Annual General Meeting in London, England May 14-16, 2012 to discuss industry performance in 2011, forecasts for 2012 and plans to continue to grow the toy business into the future. Presiding was ICTI President Arnie Rubin, representing the North American Toy Industry Association.

The conference program featured panel discussions on key industry issues including the harmonization of national product safety standards, environmental sustainability, marketing to children, ethical manufacturing, and promotion of the value of play.

The event was hosted by the British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) at Great Foster’s Hotel near Egham, Surrey. This imposing structure was once a royal hunting lodge used by English monarchs beginning with Henry VIII in the 16th century.

The Annual ICTI Award, dedicated to an organization in the host country that has actively improved the lives of the world’s children, went to UK-based charity TOYBOX in recognition of its outstanding contribution and commitment for over 20 years to helping children who live and work in the street and those at risk of doing so, principally in Latin America. The award was presented by Mr. Rubin and was accepted by TOYBOX CEO Andy Stockbridge.

Elections for the 2012-2013 Board of Directors, as well as for a new slate of officers, also took place during the AGM. The incoming officers are:
